For the remainder of 2022 season, the Las Vegas Raiders will start Jarret Stidham instead of Derek Carr
If Carr fails his offseason physical, $40.4 million is guaranteed. It looks like the Raiders may be attempting to maintain his health so they cut him loose prior to the 2023 season.
Carr has accumulated 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns, and a league-high 14 interceptions in his seventh season with the Raiders, helping them to a 6-9 record.
The squad was effectively out of postseason contention after this past weekend's defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Prior to the 2022 campaign, the Raiders extended Carr's contract for a further three years and $121.5 million. However, they set it up so they could quickly sever ties with him after just a year.
If Carr is released this ofseaon, the teamm' dead cap ffigure for 2023 is merely $5.6 million.
After the season is over, there will be a lot to sort through, according to head coach Josh McDaniels on Wednesday.
